Those of you who know me would have noticed that I am a big fan of including “good fats” into our daily diet and supplementation protocol. I thought I would give you some insight into why.

EFAs are essential fatty acids that we must ingest through food or supplements because the body does not produce them and it requires them for good health. The term “essential fatty acid” was created because they are essential for biological processes. Only two EFAs are known for humans: alpha-linoleic acid (an omega-3 fatty acid) and linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid).

EFA’s for muscle gain and fat loss – It may seem odd that some of the best fat burning foods are high in fat themselves. Essential fatty acids have been shown to have positive effects on insulin sensitivity, thermogenesis, anabolism, and much more. These processes entail the use of many complex mechanisms, however the most important factor is their function in hormone synthesis. By passing through the cyclooxygenase, or lipoxygenase enzymatic pathways, fats are able to form several hormones known as eicosanoids. These hormones elicit many anabolic attributes.

Deficiency’s in EFA can result in the following symptoms – dry skin, water retention, lack of energy, impaired brain function, skin conditions such as eczema or acne, food cravings, allergies, and a sluggish metabolism resulting in obesity.

Physicians are now aware of the benefits of good fats to help in treating the following disorder and diseases:

  HEART DISEASE
  HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
  HIGH CHOLESTEROL
  RHEMOTOID ARTHRITIS
  DIABETES
  SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERTHYMATOSUS
  OSTEOPOROSIS
  DEPRESSION
  BIPOLAR
  SCHITZOPHRENIA

  COGNITIVE DECLINE
  ASTHMA
  MACULAR DEGENERATION
  MENSTRUAL SYMPTOMS

Its extremely important to ensure you are getting enough EFA’s in your diet or supplemental plan.
