Cardio should be performed at a low intensity under 130BPM for a longer duration. This will ensure that you are burning FAT as a fuel source, when your heart rate increases past 130BPM, carbohydrates begin to become the preferred fuel of choice for the body. This is important to understand when you are on a low carbohydrate diet as if you do exceed the recommended BPM, your body will break down muscle and convert that into carbs (energy). Remember fat CANNOT be converted into carbs. Therefore while on a low carbohydrate diet you must perform cardio under 130BPM for a longer duration to burn fat while preserving your precious muscle.

If you are a hard-core cardio addict then don’t stress you will just need to consume a certain amount of carbohydrates before your session. The amount of carbohydrate varies from person to person.
