Stubborn Fat is a slow metabolised adipose fat tissue that tends to take place in the belly, lower back, butt, hips and thighs. Your body contains two types of fat cell receptors: alpha fat receptors and beta fat receptors. Alpha fat receptors help to store body fat, they also stop the release of fat as energy and they have decreased fat cell blood flow. Blood flow is very important when it comes to fat loss. Less blood flow means less fat loss. Beta fat receptors on the other hand, are the receptors we want as they release fat when you need energy for activity lasting longer than 20 minutes, they also increase blood flow to fat cells.
All fat cells contain both receptors; stubborn fat however contain a higher ratio of alpha fat receptor up to 10 times more than other fat on your body, it also contains more estrogen receptors which accelerates fat gain, hence the reason when we are on eating and exercise plan designed to lose body fat, the stubborn areas are the last to go. This can be very frustrating when dieting for a competition. It’s imperative to understand also that the more body fat we hold the higher our estrogen levels become therefore this lowers out testosterone levels.
